Pope’s Day and Symposium
Posted: Jul 3rd, 2021
29th June, the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, was celebrated as the Pope’s Day in Don Bosco Seminary, Aluva. Keeping in mind the pandemic situation and respecting the government guidelines, the celebration was restricted to the community. The day’s celebrations commenced with the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Rev. Fr. Antony Vailatt, the Rector of Don Bosco, Vennala. During the homily he spoke about the glory of the Catholic Church which had the privilege of an unbroken chain of leadership. To mark the special anniversary year of Pope Francis’ encyclical letter Laudato Si, a symposium on the theme “Pope Francis’ Laudato Si: The Historical Context of the Encyclical Within the Social Teachings of the Church and the Theme of Common Home” was conducted. Fr. Joy Kaipan, the Rector of Don Bosco Aluva welcomed everyone to the day’s events. The keynote address was delivered by Rev. Fr. Sunil Jose, the vice-Rector and Principal. His talk was filled with valuable insight on ecology and the need to care for our common home. The talk was based entirely on the various encyclicals written by different popes over a span of nearly 50 years and thus, the presentation expressed the mind of the Church with respect to caring for the environment and the duty of every Christian to treat the environment with respect and dignity. The symposium was followed by a beautiful cultural programme organised by the students of the institute. The programmes were based on the theme of the day, environmental protection. Br. Jins Joseph, the Assistant, delivered the vote of thanks.
